Carriage House
Program
A retired nuclear physicist desired to add onto an early vintage, dutch colonial home. It was imperative to preserve the scale, integrity, sympathetic architectural form, and identity of the existing residence. This place will be his private zone of serenity.
Challenges
To stay within a rather limited budget, preserving the site integrity while maintaining a glass enclosed link between the carriage house and existing home.
The addition will also house a 2-car garage at grade level.
The interior architectural challenge was to create a high central atrium ceiling magnifying the space and breaking from the traditional dutch colonial sections of low angled ceilings and intermittant dormers.
